Boac is the provincial capital, which means it carries the weight of being the political, commercial, and institutional center of Marinduque. The Capitol building, the main market, the largest concentration of banks and government offices — all of these sit in Boac. For first-time visitors, it is usually the first town they spend real time in, and for many it becomes the base for exploring the rest of the island.
Population and Size
With a population of 54,365 and a land area of 212.70 square kilometers, Boac is the most populous municipality in the province and one of the larger ones by area. The town center is compact and walkable, but the municipality itself extends well into the interior and toward the coast.
