On the western edge of Boac, Laylay Beach is one of those quietly lovely pockets of Marinduque's coastline that locals have been keeping mostly to themselves. Best Time to Visit

Dry season (November–May), mid-morning to late afternoon. The volcanic-sand color is unusual for the island and worth seeing — different look from the white-sand beaches over in Torrijos. The sea here is calm because of the sheltered position near the Boac River mouth, so it's safe for kids. Sunsets over the water are the local draw and the reason most visitors come.

What to Bring

Swimwear, sunscreen, a dry bag, and water shoes — the sand at Laylay has volcanic-colored patches and the occasional rough bit, not the soft white you'd expect from a postcard. Cash for beachside snacks; this is more of a casual local beach than a developed resort area, so bring small bills. Mosquito repellent for the late afternoon — they get aggressive around dusk near the river mouth.

How to Get Here

From Boac Public Market, take a jeepney heading toward Laylay and ask to be dropped at the beach. It's near the mouth of the Boac River, a short walk from the jeepney stop. If you're not sure where to get off, mention "Laylay Beach" to the driver — they'll get you to the right spot.
