About Buenavista
What Buenavista Is
Buenavista is the southernmost municipality on the island and the smallest by land area at 81.25 square kilometers. With a population of 24,136, it is also the least populous. What it lacks in size and numbers, it makes up for in setting. The town sits near the foothills of Mount Malindig, Marinduque's highest peak, and has a quieter, more unhurried feel than the island's more active centers.
Community Life and Language
Like the rest of Marinduque, Buenavista runs on Tagalog. But the pace here is slower, and the community-centered character of life in the southern end of the island comes through clearly. This is not a place that moves quickly, and that is part of its appeal. Locals are used to visitors passing through on the way to Malbog or up toward the mountain, and there is an easy hospitality to the interactions.
