🏝️Port of Buyabod

Brgy. Buyabod, Santa Cruz, Marinduque
Get Directions

About this place

On the eastern Marinduque coast in Santa Cruz, the Port of Buyabod is one of the province's main maritime gateways — connecting Marinduque to Talao-Talao / Dalahican Port in Lucena City and serving as the launching point for Maniwaya Island boats. For most visitors heading to Maniwaya, the trip starts here.

What the Port Connects

- Buyabod ↔ Lucena (Quezon) — passenger and vehicle ferry route - Buyabod ↔ Maniwaya Island — pumpboat departures for resort guests and day-trippers - Buyabod ↔ Mongpong / Ungab — the same boats that run Maniwaya itineraries also stop at the Ungab Rock Formation

Together, these routes make Buyabod one of the busiest non-Balanacan ports in Marinduque.

Practical Info

- Phone: +63 918 501 4746 - Address: F3J4+576, Santa Cruz, Marinduque - Coordinates: approximately 13.4669°N, 122.0518°E - Hours: Active throughout the day; specific schedule depends on the boat operator - Pricing: Fares vary by route and operator — coordinate with your destination resort for boat-package rates

Coordinating a Maniwaya Boat

The standard pattern for Maniwaya travelers:

1. Confirm your resort booking on Maniwaya (Wawie's, Islas Moriones, Marikit-na, etc.) 2. The resort coordinates the pumpboat pickup at Buyabod — most include this in their packages 3. Arrive at Buyabod with enough buffer for the boat departure 4. Boat ride to Maniwaya is typically under an hour

Day-trippers without a resort can negotiate boat rentals directly at the port — rates run higher than included resort transfers.

What to Bring

- Cash for fares and any port-side incidentals - Valid ID for passenger manifest - Sun protection — boat rides and the port itself are open-air - Motion-sickness medication if needed - Light packing — pumpboats have limited deck space

Why It Matters

Port of Buyabod is more than just a transit point — it's the structural backbone of the Santa Cruz–Maniwaya tourism flow. Every photograph of Palad Sandbar and every Maniwaya beach memory passes through this port. For travelers, it's also a useful waypoint: the surrounding Santa Cruz town center is a short tricycle ride for groceries, ATM stops, and pasalubong runs before crossing to the island.

Best Time to Visit

Mornings, when crossings are most reliable. Sea conditions can cancel afternoon trips, especially June through October. Showing up before 8 AM gives you the best shot at a same-day departure.

What to Bring

Cash for fares — banca operators are cash-only and won't take cards or e-wallets in a pinch. Light snacks, dry bag for valuables, and water for the wait. If you're heading to Maniwaya, treat the port as the start of your trip — bring everything you'll need for the island already, because you can't easily come back for it.

How to Get Here

Buyabod is the Sta Cruz port barangay — the standard departure point for Maniwaya bancas. From Sta Cruz Centro, a 10–15 minute tricycle ride. From Balanacan Port (RoRo from Lucena), jeepney to Sta Cruz Centro then tricycle out to Buyabod.
