🛏️Amara Sands
About this place
On the white sands of Maniwaya Island in Santa Cruz, AMARA Sands is one of the resorts that quietly anchors Marinduque's most popular island destination. Listed under the broader Playa Amara / AMARA umbrella, it's the kind of beachfront stay that gives travelers a real shot at the postcard Maniwaya experience — clear water out front, white sand under your feet, and a slow-down rhythm that the small-island setting practically forces.
What the Property Offers
AMARA Sands is set on Maniwaya, Sta. Cruz, the same island that's home to the Palad Sandbar appearing at low tide and the Ungab Rock Formation off the coast of nearby Mongpong. That makes the resort an effective base for the typical Maniwaya island-hopping circuit: a morning boat to Palad, a stop at Ungab, lunch back at the resort, and an unhurried afternoon on the beach.

Why It Works
Maniwaya doesn't need much marketing — the island sells itself. What AMARA Sands provides is a stay that lets you actually be there: a bed, a beach, and the time to enjoy both. For groups, families, or couples doing the Marinduque island-hopping circuit, this is a solid base.
Best Time to Visit
Dry season — November through May — for safe banca crossings. June through October the seas can turn nasty fast and crossings get cancelled mid-trip. If you must go in the wet months, plan with a buffer day on either side so a cancelled boat doesn't derail your travel home.
What to Bring
How to Get Here
Maniwaya is reached by banca from Buyabod Port in Brgy. Buyabod, Sta Cruz — that's the standard launch point. NOT Balanacan Port — Balanacan is the RoRo terminal where the Lucena ferry lands, on the opposite side of the island. Full route: Lucena → ferry to Balanacan → jeepney/van to Sta Cruz Centro → tricycle to Buyabod Port → banca to Maniwaya. Confirm boat pickup with your resort directly, especially with heavy luggage; the bancas are small and porters aren't standing by. Allow a full half-day for the trip from Lucena.
⚠️ banca only — book in advance
Local routes, fares, and ferry schedules can shift without notice — and travel times depend on weather, traffic, and tide. Confirm fares and timing with the driver or locals before you set out.
