About this place
In Barangay Sibuyao, Torrijos, the Sibuyao Hills Camping Site is the elevated counterpart to Marinduque's east-coast beaches — a mountain-view camping destination at over 500 meters above sea level, where the cool climate, rolling grasslands, and clear-day views down to the eastern coastline make for one of the best camping, trekking, and "sea of clouds" viewing spots on the island.
What You Get from the Top
The site's elevation gives visitors:
- Panoramic views of Marinduque's eastern coastline - Mountain ranges stretching across the inland highlands - Rolling grasslands — the open-terrain photography zone - "Sea of clouds" viewing during early mornings and late afternoons — the prized window for landscape photographers
For the right weather and timing, this is the kind of vista that earns its way onto travel reels.
A Note from Someone Who's Done the Drive
Aaron Rioflorido shared a practical post-visit account that's worth reading carefully:
"It was OK. You'll get a good view of the province. Be careful though as the mountain is pretty steep. Also, if you're driving, make sure that your vehicle is in top working condition as the road can get really steep. I saw some vehicles overheating on the way up and down the mountain."
Two takeaways from that:
1. The road is genuinely steep — both up and down 2. Vehicle condition matters — overheating is a real risk for cars not in good shape
If you're driving up, plan with that in mind. Make sure your engine is in good condition and your brakes are reliable.

What to Bring
For a camping or day-trip visit, plan with the elevation in mind:
- Camping gear — tent, sleeping setup, cooking gear if staying overnight - Layers — wind picks up at elevation; mornings are notably cooler than the coast - Sturdy footwear — for the terrain - Drinking water and food — limited vendor options at the site - Sun protection — open ridges have minimal shade - Camera — wide-angle especially, for the sea of clouds and the panorama - Trash bag — pack out everything
Why to Make the Climb
Marinduque's tourism centers around its coast. Sibuyao Hills is the elevation counterpoint — same province, completely different visual register, and one of the rare spots that gives you genuine sea-of-clouds opportunities. For travelers wanting their Marinduque memory to include the highlands, this is the address.
Best Time to Visit
November to May (dry season). Avoid typhoon months (June–October).

How to Get Here
From Balanacan Port in Mogpog, take a jeepney bound for Torrijos. Inform the driver that you are heading to Sibuyao Hills. Keep an eye out for the sign for Sibuyao Hills as you approach the area. Once you arrive at the nearest drop-off point, you can hire a tricycle to take you directly to the camping site. If you are coming from Boac, you can also catch a jeepney to Torrijos at the Boac Public Market. Again, tell the driver your destination and follow the same procedure for the last leg of your journey.
Local routes, fares, and ferry schedules can shift without notice — and travel times depend on weather, traffic, and tide. Confirm fares and timing with the driver or locals before you set out.
