🏝️Tres Reyes Islands
About this place
Few experiences feel more quintessentially Marinduque than a boat trip to the Tres Reyes Islands. Named after the biblical Three Kings — Gaspar, Melchor, and Baltazar — this trio of islands sits off the coast of Barangay Pinggan, Gasan, and has quietly been one of the province's signature island-hopping destinations for years.
What's on Each Island
Each island in the group has its own character. Together they offer clear blue-green waters, coral beaches, and rich marine life — the kind of conditions that make for excellent snorkeling, scuba diving, and the kind of unhurried picnics where afternoons turn into evenings.
- Baltazar Island — home to the Baltazar Island Lighthouse (also known as Los Tres Reyes Lighthouse) and a popular diving spot featuring an underwater cave - Gaspar Island — has a solar-powered electricity supply - Melchor Island — offers cottages for day-trippers
Activities Worth Doing
The Tres Reyes experience is built for island hopping, snorkeling, scuba diving, and picnics. The water clarity makes the underwater scenery genuinely worth bringing a mask for, and the coral structures support enough marine life to keep the reef-curious happy for a full day.
Boat Rentals and Tour Guides
Arrangements go through local boatmen in Pinggan. Typical boat rental rates for island hopping run PHP 1,000 to PHP 1,500. There's no formal entrance fee, though donations are accepted and appreciated — this is a marine sanctuary that benefits from community support.

Planning the Trip
The islands are most enjoyable on calm-water days — weather permitting, a morning departure gives you a full day to move between all three. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and reef-safe gear. Tides and currents vary seasonally, so coordinating with local boatmen ahead of time is always the right move.
Best Time to Visit
Dry season (November–May) for safe banca crossings and clear water. Mornings are calmest before the wind picks up. Tres Reyes is named for three small islands (Baltazar, Melchor, Gaspar — for the Three Wise Men); a typical island-hopping tour visits all three plus Baltazar Island Lighthouse. Plan it as a full-day trip, not a quick stop.
What to Bring
How to Get Here
Tres Reyes Islands are reached by banca from Brgy. Pinggan dock. From Gasan Centro, a tricycle to Pinggan dock — drivers know it; it's the standard departure point for Gasan island trips. At the dock, ask local fishermen or boatmen for current banca arrangements; schedules vary with sea conditions and demand. Pinggan Karinderya is at the dock if you need a meal before or after.
⚠️ tide-dependent crossing
Local routes, fares, and ferry schedules can shift without notice — and travel times depend on weather, traffic, and tide. Confirm fares and timing with the driver or locals before you set out.
